1877 - First performance in Moscow at the Bolshoi Theatre, marked Tchaikovsky’s first ballet
First reviews? It was said the music was considered to be too complicated and symphonic for ballet and the choreography was unimaginative and forgettable. Critics dismissed Tchaikovsky’s music as too noisy. Dancers disliked the fast-paced score. It wasn’t until after Tchaikovsky’s death that French choreographer, Marius Petipa, revived the iconic ballet.
